Today's #OneGoodThing:

On Rosh Hashanah, we end the day with a ceremony called Tashlich, which literally means casting off. We cast off the sins of the previous year by tossing bread into flowing water.

This year, the bread we tossed was an unfortunate attempt at homemade challah that came out more hockey-puck-like than pillowy. The good thing about this challah was that it was easy to tear and throw pieces of it into the water.

All four of us headed to the creek beside Hart Park. Jayme helped us move some rocks to be our stepping stones to a small shoal. In the quiet, the water rushed past us and the trees whispered to each other and we each cast small pieces of bread to the currents.

As I tossed the bread to the water, I let go

My impatience.

My resentment.

My self-flagellation.

My anger.

My inattention.

My fear.

My fear.

My fear.

I know they are not gone. I will have to work at casting these away from me each and every day. But in the stillness, with the small voice of water and wind and trees around me, I promised myself I would try my damnedest.
